Presets

A preset is a saved set of grading rules. It tells drtwrk how to grade a lot or zone — how steep slopes can be, how far grading must stay from boundaries, and whether walls are allowed.

Create at least one lot preset before grading. If your file contains zones, create at least one zone preset as well. Presets are shared across your company — all users can apply them; admins can create, edit, and delete them.

What presets store

Layer assignments

  • Which CAD layers map to which geometry types (lot lines, curbs, road centerlines, edge of pavement, edge of swale, right-of-way)

Length tolerance settings

  • Maximum issue length — defects longer than this are not flagged (default 1.5 m, maximum 1.5 m)
  • Maximum overlap tolerance — overlaps within this distance are flagged (default 1 m)

Grading rules (lot presets)

  • Minimum and maximum slopes, driveway slope limits
  • Setback distances and slope limits for front, side, and rear setbacks
  • Retaining wall and stem wall settings
  • Swale positions, fence parameters, foundation rise
  • Finished floor configurations and lot grading type priority

Grading rules (zone presets)

  • Grading strategy (for example, hold-existing-elevation)
  • Boundary constraint type

Preset scope

ScopeWho can see it
Public presetAvailable to all users in your company. Use public presets to standardize grading parameters across your team.
Custom presetScoped to your account. Use for personal or project-specific configurations not ready to share company-wide.

Company administrators can promote custom presets to public presets from the web application.

Create a preset

  1. Log in to the drtwrk web application.
  2. Navigate to Presets in the sidebar.
  3. Click New Preset and choose whether to create a lot preset or a zone preset.
  4. Fill in the grading parameters.
  5. Give the preset a name and an optional description.
  6. Choose the scope — Public or Custom.
  7. Click Save.

Lot preset settings

Lot Type

Controls which direction water drains across the lot:

TypeDrainage direction
Type AFront — water drains toward the street
Type BFront and rear — water drains toward both street and rear yard
Type CRear — water drains toward the back of the lot

Setback Distances

FieldDescription
Front setbackDistance from the front property line
Side setbackDistance from each side property line
Rear setbackDistance from the rear property line
Rear setback — max slopeMaximum slope percentage at the rear boundary
Side setback — max slopeMaximum slope percentage at the side boundary

Walls

SettingDescription
Retaining WallsEnable if retaining walls are permitted on this lot type
Stem WallsEnable if stem walls are permitted

Water Flow and Swale Options

SettingDescription
Allow water crossing between lotsOn — water can flow from one lot into the next. Off — drainage stays within each lot.
Allow usage of rear yard drainsEnable rear yard drain inlets for this lot type
Fence locationWhere the fence sits: Side, Rear, or Both
Is fence permeable?Yes — water passes through. No — the fence blocks flow.
Swale location (side yard)On lot line or off lot line — use the diagrams in the UI to choose.
Compare grading outcomes

Assigning different presets to lots in the same lot group lets you compare results side by side using the Solution Comparison Table in the grading viewer.

Zone preset settings

SettingDescription
Slope LimitsMinimum and maximum slope percentage for the zone surface
WallsEnable if walls are allowed on the zone side of a boundary shared with a lot
Allow internal swalesEnable to place drainage swales inside the zone
Internal swale offset from lot lineDistance (in feet) to offset internal swales from the zone boundary
Allow usage of inletsEnable if drain inlets are permitted inside the zone
Accept water from adjacent lots or zonesEnable if this zone receives runoff from neighboring areas

Apply a preset

  • Layer Review modal — select a preset to load its layer assignments and length tolerance settings before running 2DLINEWORK or 3DLINEWORK
  • Grading modal — select a preset to load its full grading rules before submitting via LOTZONEGRADING

When you select a preset, all matching fields are populated automatically. You can still override individual values before submitting.

If the lot types in your drawing do not match the lot types expected by a preset, drtwrk reports a lot_type_mismatch issue. Review the affected lots in the grading modal before submitting.
