Plugin Errors

Civil 3D plugin installation

The DRTWRK Tools ribbon tab doesn't appear after installation

Make sure Civil 3D was fully closed before you ran the installer. If the ribbon is still missing, run the installer again as Administrator (right-click → Run as administrator). Verify that the plugin files were placed in the correct Civil 3D application support folder and that the .dll files are present. Also check that no antivirus software blocked the plugin files during installation.

The plugin crashes on startup

Check the following:

  • Verify that your Civil 3D version is supported (2023–2027)
  • Review the startup logs at %LOCALAPPDATA%/DRTWRK/Civil3D/Logs/ for error details

Civil 3D not connecting after a plugin update

  1. Close Civil 3D completely
  2. Run the latest installer as Administrator (from Account > Downloads)
  3. Reopen Civil 3D and sign in again
  4. If you see "Plugin version mismatch" — install the latest version
2D linework issues

2DLINEWORK doesn't collect any objects

The command collects objects based on layer names configured in the Layer Review modal. Open the modal and confirm each layer type is mapped to the correct layer name in your drawing. Then verify that objects actually exist on those layers in the active drawing.

Too many open endpoint errors

Open endpoints occur when a line endpoint is not connected to any adjacent line. Use Civil 3D's geometry tools to verify that polyline endpoints are truly coincident — a visual overlap does not guarantee a shared node. Snap endpoints together and rerun the command.

Short segment errors won't auto-fix

If segments are within an acceptable tolerance for your project, dismiss them individually in the Grading Prep Review panel, or use Dismiss All. The lower threshold is fixed to your drawing's point tolerance and cannot be raised; only the maximum issue length is adjustable, and raising it flags more issues rather than fewer.

Lines aren't splitting at intersections

The split operation requires lines to physically intersect in 3D space. Confirm the lines genuinely cross rather than just appearing to cross from above. Check for elevation differences — if two lines have different Z values at the apparent crossing point, they will not be split.

3D linework issues

Feature lines have incorrect elevations

Open the Layer Review modal and verify each layer type is assigned to the correct projection surface. Confirm that each surface contains data at the lot line locations — if a surface does not have TIN triangles covering an area, feature lines in that area cannot receive a valid elevation.

Open endpoints couldn't be extended to surface

A lot line endpoint falls outside the boundary of the assigned projection surface. Either extend the surface to cover the endpoint location, or move the endpoint inside the surface boundary, then rerun the 3D linework command.

Surface triangulation doesn't follow curved feature lines

Civil 3D triangulates arc-based breaklines as straight chords by default. When adding feature lines as breaklines to your surface, reduce the mid-ordinate distance to insert more supplemental points along the arc. A value of 0.1 ft (≈ 30 mm) is recommended for curb returns and other high-curvature features.

Lot grading issues

The grading modal doesn't open

Check your internet connection — the modal requires the plugin to communicate with the drtwrk service. Confirm that you are signed in: look for the Account / Login button in the ribbon and complete authentication if prompted.

Grading data from a previous session is missing

The plugin links grading data to your drawing using a persistent file ID stored in the drawing. If you created a new drawing from scratch instead of continuing work in the original file, that ID is not present. Open the original drawing to restore access to your previous session's grading data.

The grading modal shows no lots or incorrect lots

Verify your polylines are on the layers configured in Layer Review. Ensure all layers are turned on (not frozen or off) in your drawing. Confirm you completed and submitted both the 2D and 3D linework steps before running LOTZONEGRADING.
