Updates

The drtwrk Civil 3D plugin includes an automatic update system so you always have the latest features and fixes.

How updates work

The plugin checks for updates automatically each time Civil 3D starts. The check runs in the background after a 5-second delay and does not interrupt your workflow. If you want to check immediately, click the Check Updates button in the Account/Support panel of the DRTWRK Tools ribbon. When an update is available, a notification appears — click it to download and install. The update is applied the next time Civil 3D restarts.

You can also check from the drtwrk Toolbar app in the Windows notification area. The toolbar app stays available outside Civil 3D for update checks, support, sign-in, and crash-report actions.

Update logs

The plugin records every update check, download, and installation. To review the history or investigate a failed update, open:

%LOCALAPPDATA%/DRTWRK/Civil3D/Logs/update_*.log

Troubleshooting update issues

Plugin isn’t updating automatically

Check that your machine has an active internet connection when Civil 3D starts. If your organisation uses a firewall or proxy, confirm that the plugin is allowed outbound internet access — the update check is blocked if network traffic from Civil 3D is restricted.

Manual check says no updates but a newer version exists

First, verify you have an active internet connection. Then open the update log at %LOCALAPPDATA%/DRTWRK/Civil3D/Logs/update_*.log and look for any errors recorded during the last check. If the log shows no errors but the version still appears out of date, contact your administrator — they can confirm the expected version and investigate whether the production update channel has been updated.

Update download fails

Check your internet connection and try the manual check again. Open %LOCALAPPDATA%/DRTWRK/Civil3D/Logs/update_*.log to read the detailed error recorded at the time of the failure — this usually indicates whether the problem is a network timeout, a permission issue, or something else.

Plugin reverted to an older version after updating

In some cases the automatic update process does not complete cleanly and the previous version is restored on the next launch. Download the latest installer directly from the drtwrk web app and run it manually to install the correct version. Close Civil 3D before running the installer.
